Real Raw – Day 31 – One Month Assessment

24 10 2008

It’s been a month, so it’s time for my first month’s assessment.

I stepped on the scale this morning. I’m at exactly the same weight I was one month ago, when I started this experiment. I expect to lose weight. Everyone I’ve ever known on a raw diet, and every testimonial I’ve ever read from someone who started a raw diet, says they’ve lost weight. Lots of it. Shed 15 pounds the first month kind of weight loss. Yet, here I am, standing on the scale, at a fixed weight like a statue.

I’ve been told and read that, in spite of the raw diet being full of calories and oils from nuts and other high-caloric vegetables, like avocado, you lose weight. That these calories, in some way, don’t matter as much. That you can stuff yourself (the mythical “they” always stuff themselves silly) and still lose weight. I am not stuffing myself silly. I am eating sensible amounts of food, though I have been worried a little about the overall caloric and fat content, I’ve been trusting to the testimonials. Recipes that supposedly serve “1″ last me four days, recipes for two have me eating leftovers for a week. How am I supposed gauge this new way of eating?

From an energetic perspective, I feel great. I have lots of energy, feel upbeat and positive, and am really enjoying the fresh taste of the food.

Today –

Breakfast – kefir muesli w/ banana, 2 tbl flaxseeds, 1 tsp sunflower seeds, 1/2 tbl flaxseed oil, 1 tsp agave nectar

Lunch – leftover quinoa salad, mixed with minced spinach, and tomato soup

Dinner – Chinese food! (yeah, it’s cooked)

What else?

I make granola and put in the dehydrator for overnight drying. It includes oats, walnuts, almonds, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, coconut, 1 apple, 1 tbl coconut oil, 1/4 cup agave nectar, cinnamon, nutmeg, pinch of salt.

Now that I’ve reached the one-month mark, I think I’ll be posting on a less rigid schedule in the future – perhaps a few times per week. We’ll see. It’s all about process.
